Personalized Physical Therapy: What It Looks Like
At Mangiarelli Rehabilitation, we provide each of our patients with an individualized treatment program. You will never find a cookie cutter approach to physical therapy at our clinic. A cookie cutter approach has no benefit as it does not tailor to the specific needs, pain level, and goals of the patients. Ultimately at our clinic, each patient is given an individualized plan so that they can reach their max potential in the safest and most successful way.
In physical therapy, rehabilitation protocols establish treatment goals and provide timelines for care that are consistent with clinical expertise. At Mangiarelli Rehabilitation, we utilize protocols while also adapting and customizing our treatment to the patient’s specific needs. As physical therapists, we are designated to do a prescription of exercises. We customize our exercise prescriptions to the patient’s ability to ensure we do not load the tissue too soon after surgery while it is healing and work with the patient to ensure they progress safely and effectively.
Physical therapy treatment is different for each patient even if they have the same diagnosis. Each patient is given different exercises depending on their current ability and pain levels. For example, three different patients have a rotator cuff injury. One patient may progress more slowly due to a higher pain level; the second patient may progress more quickly due to a lower pain level or a less extensive surgery; and the third patient progresses normally. The three patients may finish therapy at different times, either earlier or later than projected, depending on how quickly they progress. The priority of our physical therapists is that each patient progresses safely and effectively based on their specific needs and ability.
